Charis Lawson
Charis is a former DUIT intern and part-time blogger who received her bachelor’s degree in Literary Arts and Communication Technology with a minor in History. She is a native of Washington D.C... Charis believes that the people are the center of the DUIT organization, and she has created beneficial relationships. Her response to the DUIT environment is that “It is so influential and encouraging to know that this type of environment is out there and that they exist”. Outside of DUIT, Charis has a passion for people and is very social and supportive. She volunteers with her school to inspire youth to become politically active in the community. A fun fact about Charis is that her favorite ice cream flavor is Birthday Cake Remix from Cold Stone Creamery.
Eric Weissert
Eric is a former DUIT intern who received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He is a native of Pennsylvania. As an intern, Eric assisted with recruitment and candidate searches. On behalf of DUIT, Eric stated, “DUIT it is a great company. For the short amount of time that I have been working here, I can see that this is a family-oriented company and they care for all their employees... DUIT has impacted my life by giving me the opportunity to develop in a professional environment and will help with my resume throughout my professional life”. Some fun facts about Corey are that he has two younger brothers, his favorite ice cream is Raspberry Cheesecake, and he has a passion for Philly sports and violins; in which he has been playing since the fourth grade.
Micaela Feldi
Micaela is a former DUIT intern who received her bachelor’s degree in Molecular Cellular Biology. Her time at DUIT consisted of finding and contacting candidates. In response to DUIT, Miceala remembers her intern experience through stating “I love the family friendly atmosphere. My experience at DUIT will help me with the rest of my life. I also like my co-workers and the Christian environment... DUIT has impacted my life because the community listens and supports its employees. I witnessed how generous and kind the company is, and I am thankful that I was hired”. Fun facts about Miceala are that she wants to become a doctor and her passion is basketball, friends, volunteering, and research. She is also working on a community-based research proposal for Johns Hopkins and her favorite ice-cream is Mint Chocolate Chip.
Helena
Helena is a former intern at DUIT from Woodbridge, Virginia. She graduated from Western School of Technology and Environmental Science. As a summer intern, Helena contacted potential candidates, assisted with recruitment and collaborated with other interns to create an employee handbook for DUIT. Her remarks of DUIT state “I am proud to work at DUIT because of the warm and welcoming atmosphere. At DUIT, everyone makes sure you are comfortable regardless of your position. I am thankful for DUIT because my job as a summer intern allowed for me to get a professional experience. At DUIT I have been able to gain experience with professional work environment and experience with technology”. Some fun facts about Helena are that she would love to visit Dubai and her favorite childhood memory was watching her grandmother meet her birth mother and traveling to California where she got to meet some of her cousins.
Adria Council
Adria is a current summer intern at DUIT who began as a spring intern. Adria is a recent graduate from Stevenson University who received her degree in Business Information Systems. Adria participated in a website development project for DUIT alongside completing candidate resumes and candidate recruitment. To reflect, she states “DUIT is very supportive and hands-on. When working here I feel that I receive the best of both worlds. This means I not only get to experience a great working environment but I also learn more about myself and how to apply myself in a team environment such as DUIT. At DUIT, I have been able to build relationships, learn effective communication, and work on an amazing project as a team that will lead to the future success of DUIT. I believe my work efforts are valued here and I am grateful to be a part of this opportunity”. Some fun facts about Adria are that she is a food-lover and enjoys music. She is also very creative and loves arts and crafts during her spare time. Lastly, her favorite ice cream is Cookies and Cream.
Corey Schulman
Corey is a former DUIT intern that attends University of Maryland Baltimore County, studying Applied Statistics with a minor in Economics. At his time at DUIT, Corey participated in the website development project for DUIT as well as assisting with candidate resumes and recruitment. Corey believes “DUIT represents a positive work-environment where there is nothing but continuous guidance. There is a great balance of work and it’s comforting to know that I can always ask for help when needed. My DUIT experience has been awesome and I received support from my supervisors and team members every step of the way. I also enjoyed the spontaneity of the office and there was never a dull moment!” Corey plans to become an Actuarial, Census Bureau, or Data Analyst with a dream to pursue Sports Analytics. Some fun facts about Corey are that he is a huge Maryland sports teams' fan and he loves skiing.

DUIT utilizes the best practices identified by the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) to deliver quality systems that meet our customers’ needs. We focus on defining customer needs and required functionality early in the development cycle to make quality deliverables from the start. We maintain quality throughout its life cycle. We know what systems engineering is needed from concept to operation for agile, traditional, and nontraditional development cycles. We validate systems at all milestones and have experience using DoD and IC test and evaluation processes. We are experts at drafting all DoD acquisition artifacts and systems engineering documentation.
DUIT senior systems engineers serve as requirements managers for several agile software development programs. We utilize IBM Rational Requisite Professional, JIRA, and DOORS (requirements database) to manage, capture requirements, derive requirements, ensure requirements quality, allocate requirements, and control requirements. We maintain requirements databases, develop effectiveness and performance measures, create user stories, decompose user stories into functional requirements, create requirements traceability, systems requirements, and ensure performance, availability, and capture reliability requirements.
DUIT gets help from SonarQube to make sure there are no hiccups along the way. Fluent in 27 programming languages, SonarQube ensures a high developer velocity, continuously evaluating and fixing vulnerabilities to ensure no bug goes undetected. Using continuous integration programs such as Azure DevOps and Jenkins DevOps, among other CI/CD servers, helps satisfy the myriad clients we have. Using Taint Analysis, we can track untrusted user input in a program from the point of vulnerability back to the “sink” where the location occurs. Thus, increasing the integrity of the code DUIT has created and helping SonarQube’s built-in security check against The Open Web Application Security Project Top 10 and SANS Organization Top 25.
If you aren’t using cloud computing at this stage in the game, the game has surpassed you. DUIT recognizes this and uses the most exemplary Cloud Computing programs to assure high functionality across networks big and small. DUIT offers IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS. Of these options, we pride ourselves on our fluency with SaaS Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS has industry-leading cloud processing capabilities protected by over 250 different security measures, compliant with the Department of Defense’s (DoD) Criminal Justice Information Systems Policy (CJIS), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Department of Defense (DoD) Cloud Computing Security Requirements Guide (SRG), and other compliance regimes. DUIT is currently assisting a classified DoD agency in architecting and deploying cloud solutions using Amazon Web Services while promoting enhanced collaboration to reduce IT costs and improve IT efficiencies.

Mental, physical, and emotional health all matter deeply to us and finding a good work-play balance is imperative to success no matter what field you enter. A declining mental health due to a lack of work-life balance can lead to a variety of issues that can range from stress-related illness to depression.
